SOMERSET SCENES
To the west is the Exmoor National Park, with the villages of Porlock, Dunster, Allerford, Bossington and Selworthy. There are seaside resorts like Minehead and, further north, Weston-Super-Mare. Or for those seeking peace, the fossil-rich coast of Kilve and National Trust-owned Brean Down. Historic cities - Wells, England's smallest; Bristol with its docks and ships; and to the east, the picturesque Cotswold City of Bath. Then there are wild moorlands atop the Mendip Hills with its famous Cheddar Gorge, as well as the Somerset Levels - flooded wetlands that are a haven for wildlife. The rolling green hills of the Poldens, Blackdowns and, winning the hearts of Wordworth and Coleridge, the Quantocks. In South Somerset one also finds gentle undulations in the landscape, dotted with thatched villages built of the local golden stone, lost in time. You will find on the other pages scenes of the area too.
"I hope I have been able to, at least some extent, give justice to this most pleasant area of England."
